New Analysis Highlights Strategic Role

of U.S. LNG in the Three Seas Initiative Region

A new policy analysis published by NFF experts sheds light on the rapidly evolving liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure across the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) region, underscoring its growing strategic partnership with the United States in the energy sector.
Titled “Optimizing LNG Infrastructure in the Three Seas Initiative Region: Implications for Energy Security and American LNG Exports”, the report is co-authored by Ireneusz Lazor, a Polish energy markets expert, and Natko Vlahovic, Founder and President of the New Frontier Foundation. Released on July 22, the study provides a comprehensive overview of the 3SI countries’ investments in LNG terminals, pipeline interconnectivity, and long-term contracts with American exporters.

Amid shifting geopolitical dynamics following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the report emphasizes the region’s urgent pivot away from Russian gas and the central role of U.S. LNG in ensuring energy diversification and security. With American LNG exports to Europe surging—77% of U.S. volumes in early 2025 destined for European markets—the analysis details how facilities in Poland, Croatia, Greece, and others are expanding to meet demand.
The report also introduces a proposal for a regional gas price index—3S-GasX—aimed at improving market integration and transparency among 3SI members.
The findings come at a critical time as the U.S., under President Trump’s second term, accelerates LNG export approvals, positioning American gas as a cornerstone of Europe’s energy resilience.
